What Bollywood Fashion Would Be Like If the Eccentric Style of Raaj Kumar Didn’t Exist

Raaj Kumar’s image has been embedded in our minds for his flamboyant dialogue delivery and he is remembered as the most stylised actor of his era. He was noticed in the costume drama “Nausherwan-E-Dil” and “Mother India” in 1957 and he managed to act and match up with the thespian DILIP KUMAR’S stardom in “Paigam” (1959) before changing his entire on-screen persona. It happened with “Waqt” (1965) which was also instrumental in transforming his image as directors began to write slightly “greyish” yet lengthier roles for him. But now he had more variety to show off when it came to playing his characters which carried Vogue with Panache.

His impeccable sense of dressing up might still be a topic of great mirth for todays generation but we can’t deny that he did carve a niche for himself as a Fashion Icon.

From perfectly tailored suits to collar bands – he could wear micro shorts with unbuttoned shirt too; he also liked wearing kurta pyjamas and khadau (wooden sandals) and we could hardly find him without a muffler in a film.

He imbibed a lot from his trips to Switzerland and London and introduced Bathrobes & Night Robes as a part of an actor’s attire while playing his Flashy Roles.

The Cat Eyed Glasses, cigars & pipes (even a match-stick) were his constant companions matching up with his signature-style Walk which kept him in his own league for almost 4 decades.

And he never changed the style of his pencil moustache….EVER! There would be fabric brought at his home for curtains…and a week later, he’d be walking around in a shirt made of that material.

Ever heard of such Eccentricity?

Well! There was and will be only One RAAJ KUMAR.

As the designer Coco Chanel said, “I don’t do fashion, I am Fashion.”

  1. Thanks for your article. I would also like to say that the health insurance brokerage service also works best for the benefit of the actual coordinators of a group insurance plan. The health broker is given a long list of benefits needed by a person or a group coordinator. What any broker does is search for individuals or maybe coordinators which often best match up those requirements. Then he reveals his advice and if each party agree, the actual broker formulates binding agreement between the two parties.
